When the first autumn rains arrive, walks get muddier and so do floors. The good news: a simple routine at the door takes about a minute and saves a lot of mopping.
Set up a paw station by the door
Keep three things together where you come in: a cup or bowl of water, a towel, and a few treats. If it's all in one place, you'll actually use it.
The one-minute routine
- Stop at the door. Ask your dog to sit or wait before coming in. A treat helps.
- Wash each paw. Dip it in a paw-cleaning cup with a little water, twist gently and lift out. Soft silicone bristles lift mud from between the toes and pads.
- Pat dry. Squeeze each paw in a microfibre towel. Don't forget between the toes, where moisture can irritate skin.
- Reward. A treat at the end turns it into a habit your dog looks forward to.
Check paws while you're there
Look between the pads for small stones, thorns or cuts. If a pad looks red, swollen or your dog is limping, see your vet.
Look after dry pads
Wet walks followed by warm homes can leave pads dry and rough. A thin layer of paw balm after drying keeps them soft. Let it absorb before the next walk.
Make it easy: The Muddy Walk Kit pairs the Paw Spa Cup with the CloudDry Towel, everything for clean, dry paws at the door.
